Sandys Sandwiches may be the smallest food truck on the island but it may make sandwiches that pack the biggest punch. Sandys Sandwiches is actually owned and operated by Ryan who named it in honor of his mother.
Sandys Sandwiches has a simple menu consisting of six sandwiches and four salads. The prices for the sandwiches and salads are all $12, with the exception of the Chop Salad which is $14 and of course the classic P&J (Peanut Butter and Jelly) Sandwich at $6. Sandys Sandwiches also features organic orangeade for only $2.
Ryan recommended the Turkey and Brie sandwich so I gave that one a shot. Normally, I prefer my cuts of meat in sandwiches to be razor thin so I wasn’t sure how I was going to like the turkey sliced so thick. After trying it, the thicker cut was actually very good for this sandwich. The turkey was good quality and didn’t have a single bite that was subpar.
The Turkey and Brie sandwich comes with a nice thick pile of green leafy lettuce on both the top and bottom of the sandwich, fresh ripe red tomatoes and ripe red bell peppers, honey mustard, Black Hawaiian sea salt and of course turkey and brie. This sandwich was packed to the gills and is a little bit of a struggle to eat but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
You can see by the photos that all the ingredients are ripe and fresh and everything on the menu is locally sourced organic produce to feed the beach community. I’m not sure but I think this may be the first time I’ve ever had brie on a sandwich so I’m glad Ryan recommended this as I’ll definitely be adding brie to some of my own sandwiches in the future as well.
Overall, Sandys Sandwiches is a great place to try a good quality sandwich or salad made from very fresh produce and other ingredients Yeah, $12 may seem kind of steep for a sandwich, but this is Oahu and this is a very large and very tasty sandwich. I also liked the couple of slices of orange that came with it. Pineapple seems to be customary on Oahu, which I don’t mind as I like pineapple but a change every once in a while is also a good thing.
If you’re looking to give Sandys Sandwiches a shot, it is open from 10:00am to 5:00pm 6 days a week and closed on Tuesdays. Some food trucks on the island only take cash; Sandys Sandwiches also takes all major credit cards.
