Tucked in the back, behind the original Giovanni’s Shrimp truck in Kahuku, is one of the area’s best hidden gems, Lanis Yummy Yum Funnel Cake. The owner / operator’s name is actually Leilani and she is the one behind this tasty treat.
If you are familiar with the original Giovanni’s Shrimp Truck location, then the way to find Lanis Yummy Yum Funnel Cake is to look directly back behind the Giovanni’s truck window (where you pay for your shrimp) and you will see it in the back row of shops in between the yellow Uncle Woody’s Corn truck and the Wood Carving stand.
Lanis Yummy Yum Funnel Cake serves two kinds of Funnel Cake. One comes with just powdered sugar for only $7 and the other is fully loaded, which comes with powdered sugar, whipped cream, sliced bananas, vanilla ice cream, pureed strawberries and chocolate syrup for only $10. For me, the obvious choice was the fully loaded. If you are looking for a truly tasty dessert, this may be the best one in the area.
This is a fairly large dessert which can easily be shared between two or more people if you are so inclined to do so. The taste is as good as you’d expect it to be. Even on its own, the funnel cake tastes very good and is perfectly cooked. As you can see by the photos, Lanis Yummy Yum Funnel Cake does not skimp on the ingredients and pretty much every bite was as good as the last one.
It’s only been a little over a year since Lanis Yummy Yum Funnel Cake has been serving the public and in that short amount of time, the reviews have been very positive. They also sell Hawaiian storybooks written by Aaron T. Watene, bone carvings necklaces and other souvenirs as well.
Overall, it’s hard to beat the funnel cakes at Lanis Yummy Yum so if you’re in the area and in need of satisfying your sweet tooth, give them a try. Leilani is a very nice lady who really enjoys making desserts for the locals and the tourists alike and judging from my experience, almost everyone leaves Lanis Yummy Yum Funnel Cake with a smile on their face and their sweet tooth satisfied.
If you are looking to stop by, they are open from 10:30am to 7:30pm, six days a week (closed on Sundays).
