Famous Kahuku Shrimp Truck

Famous Kahuku Garlic Shrimp Plate Photo

Nestled in the middle of the big three Shrimp Trucks on the North Shore of Oahu, near Turtle Bay, you will find the Famous Kahuku Shrimp Truck. The big three being Giovanni’s, Fumi’s and Romy’s Shrimp Trucks. The Famous Kahuku Shrimp Truck used to have a large yellow and blue sign above it with its name on it; however, the signage has since gone missing. Now, it’s just their white truck with their name on the front of the vehicle.

The Famous Kahuku Shrimp Truck is open from 10:00am until 6:00pm, seven days a week. The menu consists of six shrimp plates, including Garlic, Hot, Fried, Steamed, Tempura and Coconut Shrimp. The menu also includes Steak, Mahi, Squid and a few combo plates. The shrimp plates are all priced at $12 each, the combo plates are priced at $14 and the Steak, Mahi and Squid plates are priced at $10.

Famous Kahuku Garlic Shrimp Macro PhotoSince I ordered the Garlic or Buttered Shrimp at almost every shrimp truck on the island, I thought I would go with their number one seller, the Garlic Shrimp. The two ladies that took my order were very friendly and since it was before the early dinner rush, I was able to place my order right away and within minutes, my order was ready. This was a good sign since a few places have tended to overcook the shrimp. I didn’t see that being an issue at the Famous Kahuku Shrimp Truck.

One thing for sure is the Famous Kahuku Shrimp Truck does not skimp on the butter garlic sauce. This is the only place where I literally had to take some of the butter garlic sauce off the shrimp before I ate it. The shrimp were nicely cooked and were also split and deveined, which I prefer as this allows the flavor to get right into the shrimp and not just on the shell. The Famous Kahuku Shrimp Truck Garlic Shrimp plate came with 10 medium sized shrimp. The shrimp was served on a bed of lettuce with a scoop of rice and macaroni salad. The rice and macaroni salad were okay but I do prefer a good slice of pineapple to contrast the rest of the meal though it is not mandatory.

Overall, the food tasted pretty good and were not overcooked. The reviews on Yelp are very positive. Of 164 reviews, 138 give the Famous Kahuku Shrimp Truck 4 or 5 stars, which means that over 84% of people who eat there really like their food. Only 12 out of 164 people rated them 1 or 2 stars, which means that only about 7% do not enjoy the food at Famous Kahuku Shrimp Truck. Based on these stats alone, the odds are pretty good that you will like the food at the Famous Kahuku Shrimp Truck.
